9/11 Memorial Museum

Located at the site of the former World Trade Center in NYC, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum stands as a touching tribute to honor and remember the 2,983 lives lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and February 26, 1993, as well as those who risked their lives to save others.

The Memorial opened on September 11, 2011 – 10 years after the 9/11 attacks. The names of the 2,983 people who were killed in the 2001 and 1993 terrorist attacks are inscribed on bronze parapets edging the memorial pools. The focal points of the Memorial are two pools that contain the largest manmade waterfalls in North America. Each waterfall descends 30 feet into a square basin, then descends another 20 feet, and disappears into a smaller, central void. According to the architect, Michael Arad, the pools represent “absence made visible.” Although water flows into the voids, they can never be filled.

The 9/11 Memorial Museum opened to the public on May 21, 2014. One of the historic remnants is the stairs known as “the Survivors’ Stairs”; as visitors arrive at the main exhibition and education level, they follow the stairs that led hundreds of survivors to safety on September 11, 2001.

The Museum is open Wednesday to Monday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Reservations are required. Tickets are only valid for the date and time window selected at purchase. Tickets are Free for Children under 6 years old and active/retired U.S. Military, $12 dlls for FDNY/NYPD/PAPD, $18 dlls for U.S. Veterans, $17 dlls for Youth(7-12), $23 dlls for US College Students, Seniors and Young Adults (13-17) and $29 dlls for Adults.

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

In October 1886, the Statue of Liberty was presented to the State of New York and to the world as a gift from the people of France to celebrate the American Centennial. The statue standing at 305 ft represents ‘Libertas’ the Roman goddess of freedom, but to the many immigrants who left everything behind to start a new life in America, it symbolizes much more: an opportunity for new beginnings, hope, success, and freedom.

The copper statue holds a torch known as the ‘light of reason’ and a book of law marked with the date of the United States Declaration of Independence. Lady Liberty offers tours to the top: you can choose from the Pedestal Tour climbing over a dozen flights of stairs to see the mesmerizing New York City Skyline or walking 354 stairs to oversee the entire city of Manhattan on the Crown of the Statue of Liberty Tour.

On January 1, 1892, Ellis Island began receiving arriving immigrants. Over the next 62 years, more than 12 million immigrants would arrive in the United States via Ellis Island. Only two percent of the arriving immigrants were excluded from entry, the two main reasons for exclusion were a doctor diagnosing an immigrant with a contagious disease that could endanger the public health, or a legal inspector was concerned an immigrant would likely become a public charge or an illegal contract laborer.

Reservations are required. Tickets are only valid for the date and time window selected at purchase. Tickets start at $12 dlls for Children (4-12), $18 dlls for Seniors and $24.50 dlls for Adults (13-61). Tickets include round trip ferry service to Liberty Island (grounds of the Statue of Liberty) and Ellis Island (Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration), access to the grounds of Liberty Island and Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty Museum, and Audio Tours of Liberty and Ellis Island.
